Teachable Moments

Teachable Moments Print E-mail
Many people will walk in and out of your life
but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart94_dscn1966.jpgTo handle yourself, use your head
to handle others, use your heart

Anger is only one letter short of danger

If someone betrays you once, it’s his fault
if he betrays you twice, it’s your fault
Great minds discuss ideas
Average minds discuss events
Small minds discuss people

God gives every bird it’s food
but He does not throw it into it’s nest

He who loses money, loses much
He who loses a friend, loses more
He who loses faith, loses all

Beautiful young people are acts of nature
But beautiful old people are works of art

Learn from the mistakes of others
You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself

The tongue weighs practically nothing
But so few people can hold it

Habit

Posted by Giap on August 26, 2006

Habit Print E-mail
I am your constant companion,
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.

Half of the tasks that you do you might just as well
Turn over to me and I will do them quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done.
After a few lessons, I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great people
And the regret of all failures as well.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.

I am not a machine but I will work with all its precision
Plus the intelligence of a person.

Now you may run me for profit or you may run me for ruin.
It makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me and
I will lay the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

I am called Habit!

Mother Teresa Anyway

Posted by Giap on August 25, 2006

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
What spend years building, someone may destroy it overnight. Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. But give the world the best you have anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God;
it was never between you and them anyway.

-Mother Teresa

This would be a life time journal, pursuing till the end, my thoghts, my collections and my collaboration with people on Inspirations;a place to come home to, in the bright morning, afternoon or before retiring at night; a place to reflect, a place to ponder, a place to learn, a place to be motivated when you are down.

DESIDERATA by Max Ehrmann :wondeful life

DESIDERATA

GO PLACIDLY AMID THE NOISE AND HASTE, AND REMEMBER
what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without serrender, be on good terms with all person. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggresive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser person than yourself.

Enjoy archeivements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is. Many person strive for higher ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love for the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the council of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do no distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and stars, you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Stive to be happy.

Do you choose to be positive or negative

Posted by Giap on August 25, 2006

Here is a wonderful story and motivational tool for us when we face happenings in our daily life.

We always make choices.

Do you realize that we may unintentionally make choices that lead us to failure ? Please read on !

You have two choices
Jerry is the manager of a restaurant. He is always in a good mood.

When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would always reply,
“If I were any better, I would be twins!”
Many of the waiters at his restaurant quit their jobs when he changed jobs,
so they could follow him around from restaurant to restaurant

Why?
Because Jerry was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day,

Jerry was always there, telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him:
“I don’t get it! No one can be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?”

Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, I have two choices today. I can choose to be in a good mood or I can choose to be in a bad mood.

I always choose to be in a good mood.

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be victim or I can choose to learn from it. I always choose to learn from it.
Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I always choose the positive side of life.”
“But it’s not always that easy,“ I protested.
“Yes it is,” Jerry said.

“Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk every situation is a choice.

You choose how you react to situations.
You choose how people will affect your mood.
You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood.
It’s your choice how you live your life.”

Several years later,

I heard that Jerry accidentally did something you are never supposed to do in the restaurant business.
He left the back door of his restaurant open

And then ???
In the morning,

he was robbed by three armed men.
They want?
#123*+!@$%&*~

While Jerry trying to open the safe box,

his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination.

The robbers panicked and shot him.
Luckily, Jerry was found quickly and rushed to the hospital.

After 18 hours of surgery

and

weeks of intensive care,

Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.…

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was,

he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Want to see my scars?”

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.
“The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied.
“Then, after they shot me, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or could choose to die. I chose to live.”

“Weren’t you scared“

I asked?

Jerry continued, “The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine.
But when they wheeled me into the Emergency Room and I saw the expression on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared.

In their eyes, I read ‘He’s a dead man.’

I knew I needed to take action.”
“What did you do?” I asked.

“Well, there was a big nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything.”

‘Yes,’ I replied.

The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply.

I took a deep breath
and yelled, ‘Bullets!’

Over their laughter, I told them,
‘I am choosing to live. Please operate on me as if I am alive, not dead’.
“Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude.

I learned from him that

every day you have the choice to either enjoy your life or to hate it.

The only thing that is truly yours — that no one can control or take from you-
is your attitude,

so if you can take care of that, everything else in life becomes much easier.
Now you have two choices to make:

1. You can delete this message or

2. You can forward it to someone you care about.

I hope you will choose #2.

I did.

Don’t Quit

Posted by Giap on August 25, 2006

When things go wrong as they sometimes will;

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill;

When the funds are low, and the debts are high and you want to smile, but have to sigh;

When care is pressing you down a bit –

Rest if you must, but do not quit.

Success is failure turned inside out;

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;

And you can never tell how close you are;

It may be near when it seems so far;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –

It’s when things go wrong that you must not quit.

Stop Waiting

Posted by Giap on August 25, 2006

Author Unknown

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren’t old enough and we’ll be more content when they are. After that we’re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.

The truth is, there’s no better time to be happy than right now.

Your life will always be filled with challenges. It’s best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza. He said, “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have.

Stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you’ve had a drink, until you’ve sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy

I Am Powerful!

Posted by Giap on August 25, 2006

I Am Powerful!

Author Unknown

I am very powerful!
Whatever I set my mind on having, I will have.
Whatever I decide to be, I will be.
The evidence is all around me.
The power of my will has brought me precisely to where I am right now.
I have made the choices. I have held the thoughts.
I have taken the actions to create my current reality.
And I have the power to change it into whatever I want it to be.
With the choices I make, I am constantly fulfilling the vision I have for my life.
If that does not seem to be the case –
then I am deceiving myself about what I really want.
Because what I really, truly want, I will get!
What I truly wanted in the past, I already have.
If I want to build a billion-dollar business, I will take the actions necessary to do it.
If I want to sit comfortably watching TV night after night –
I will take the actions necessary for that.
Dont be disappointed in my results –
theyre just the outward manifestation of my priorities.
I will be sure of what I truly want,
because I am sure to get it!
